This thesis consists of three parts : (1) the program notes of the “Vocal Recital” written by the researcher, (2) the program notes of the “Solo Recital” written by the researcher, and (3) the research paper presented by the researcher in the Graduate Student’s Conference.
The program of the vocal recital includes : Gilbert & Sullivan (1836-1911, 1842-1900) Opera “Mikado” ; “Behold the Lord High Executioner” (Chorus and Solo), “As Someday It May Happen” (Chorus and Solo), “I Am So Proud” (Trio), “With Aspect Stern and Gloomy Stride” (Finale of Act I), “Here’s a How-de-do!” (Trio), “The Criminal Cried as He Dropped Him Down” (Trio and Chorus), “The Flowers that Bloom in the Spring” (Song), “Willow, Tit-Willow” (Song), “There is Beauty in the Bellow of the Blast” (Duet), and “For He’s Gone and Married Yum-Yum” (Finale of Act II).
The program of the solo recital includes : Benjamin Britten (1913-1976) “The Salley Gardens,” “The Ash Grove,” “The Minstrel Boy,” and “Greensleeves” ; Franz Schubert (1797-1828) “An die Musik,” “Frühlingsglaube,” “Der Lindenbaum” and “Die Forelle” ; Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) “Poème d’un Jour, Op. 21” “Rencontre, ” “Toujours” and “Adieu” ; Stefano Donaudy (1879-1925) “36 ARIE DI STILE ANTICO” “Spirate pur, spirate,” “Vaghissima sembianza,” “Amorosi miei giorni” and “O del mio amato ben” ; Kuo-Hsiung, Yu (1958- ) “Lai Su” ; Baliwakes (1910-1988) “Bulai naniyam kalalumayan” ; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) Opera “DON GIOVANNI” Aria “Deh, vieni alla finestra” and Opera “LE NOZZE DI FIGARO” Aria “Hai gia vinta la causa!...Vedro mentr’io sospiro.”
The topic of the research paper being “W. S. Gilbert & A. Sullivan:The “Ko-ko” of “The Mikado”, provides structural and harmonic analysis of the composition, style and interpretation viewpoints concerning dynamic effects.
