This thesis is a discourse on my dance performance in the graduation production, “City Corner” which I joint-produced with Chia-Liang Lin and Ying-Hui Chiang, two choreography major schoolmates from the Graduate Institute of Dance, TNUA. In this production, I performed in three dance works, House by Chia-Liang Lin, Ends by Ying-Hui Chiang and a commissioned solo, FREE STEPS, tailor-made for me by Wei-Chia Su, general director of the Horse. The creation and rehearsal process of these three works are the main body of this discourse.
This thesis comprises four chapters. Chapter 1 “City Map” outlines different stages of my dance education accounting all the influence and impact from the environment and theory of dance, which dissects my dance performance experience and the inspiration to my future career direction. Chapter 2 “Corner Rumination” examines these stages in three different aspects including my body, thinking and life, through which I look into the inspiration and influence to my interpretation of the three dance works. Chapter 3 “Corner Vista” is an in-depth analysis of these three dance works, including the concept, interpretation, elements on stage and reflection. Chapter 4 “Time Tunnel” concludes the thesis with an introspection of difficulties during the production and all the problem solving process. By which, expand the exploration of dance and the way for my future career is paved.
