Abstract
Paul Hindemith (1895-963) takes an important role as one of the 20th-century composer. His works are classified as expressionism and neoclassicism. He is also a musicologist, an educationist, an educator, a conductor, and a violinist.
The music genres in the 20th century are relatively varied, and they could be explored through Paul Hindemith’s musical works. In the year 1937, Paul Hindemith had his theory book Unterweisung im Tonsatz published, which contains his theories and technics of composing.
Paul Hindemith's oboe sonata was published in 1938. Applying those theories in Unterweisung im Tonsatz has made this piece of work a fulfillment of his theories. Analyzing his oboe sonata is one of the main purposes of this thesis. It allows performers to deeply explore the composition techniques. For the interpretation of this oboe sonata, the comparison of different musicians’ recordings is included to help comprehend this research. After thein-depth analysis, the executants are able to perform this piece of work with different aspects.
