Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) was one of the outstanding Russian musicians from the end of the nineteenth century to the beginning of the twentieth century. His pieces are full of impressive and touching melody, and are abundant in a strong and colorful influence of The Orthodox. The pieces also described the Russian scenery and poetic expression. However, in addition to the characteristics of the above pieces, we also analyze the psychological impact of Piano Concerto No. 2 from various perspectives to understand how the composer rekindled the motivation to write in a state of mental breakdown.
The dissertation is divided into five chapters, the first chapter is the research motivation and purpose; the second chapter introduces Rachmaninoff’s life and the evolution of his creative style; the third chapter introduces the creation technique of the Piano Concerto No. 2; The fourth chapter will discuss the three movements, which are affected by the psychological periods; the fifth chapter is the summary.
