Critical mass refers to the various interaction phenomena among each individual from a mass in a social environmental system. These phenomena include avoiding each other, attempting to contact, collaboration, conflicts, disputes and so on. All the individual sometimes gather as a group and sometimes scatter, which is similar to the plant’s growth, animal migration, and even the various aspects of human society. The author has been intrigued by all these patterns and the meaning and signification behind those phenomena.
This creation is to analyze and purify the cluster patterns and phenomena from biological, mathematic, and scientific point of view, and also including the community structures in human society of the various interaction phenomena from critical mass. Then these phenomena and concepts will be transferred into elements for visual arts, and be interpreted from the perspectives of a plastic art creator.
This a work to transfer gathering as a mass into shapes of clay art and interpret aesthetics of mass by slab-building and moulding multiple units. According to the various characteristics of clay art, this work will be divided into four series, Cohesion, Delusion, Firmness, and Dynamics, in order to interpret the value and significance of gathering.
