This thesis deals with the author’s own creative thinking process in animation and created the short animation “Promised Land”. Here we deal with ocean imagery used in animation from different media and with different principles and practices.

The thesis discusses the plots from short animation “Promised Land”. It tells about the experienced of a third generation immigrant family, who are trying to find their self-identity. The pictures were first hand drawn and animation was generated by computer animation program which give life to the animation series and also added post production finishings.

This thesis is divided into four chapters, with the first parts dealing with the characteristics and techniques in hand drawn animation, and also introduced the author’s learning experiences and previous animation works. The second chapter presented the author’s own studies on movement of ocean imagery from different media form and used them in the animation, and its influenced on the author’s creation. The third chapter is the story and development of visual imagery of “Promised Land” and give some important analytical findings from the animation works. The last chapter is the author’s discussion and her final conclusions on the subject and suggest some future prospective area of study.
