I was born and grew up in Lukang. The streets in Lukang are closely related to my life. Then, I travelled and worked in other countries. I unexplainably love to explore and have affection for the streets anywhere all the time. For this reason, I decide to review the relationship between my life and the streets by means of this dissertation.
In my whole life, I have been through different streets, long and short, wide and narrow. I have different feelings for different streets. Some streets are warm, and some streets are dark. I love to take a walk in the streets alone and slowly. The space which the streets extend makes me imagine that the passage apparently leads to the future and the past. The streets are the passages which are similar to the process of our life, from the beginning to the end, from this street to another. The streets lead to the unknown. Because of being unknown, it makes us imaginative.
In this dissertation –「From Homeland to Foreign Land – Explore the Space of the paintings of the Streets」, Chapter 1, I elaborate the motive and purpose, the range and limitation, and the method I research the streets. In Chapter 2, I look into the streets in my homeland Lukang and foreign countries I have ever been via relevant literatures. In Chapter 3, I analyze the elements of the paintings and the principles of aesthetics by text description, and the creative ideas and practice in Chapter 4 to investigate the models, spirit and creating procedure of my works. Finally in Chapter 5, I reflect if I reach the target I initially set to study the streets, if my works touch the hearts of myself and the viewers, and if I find the way of creation for the future.
