There were some important Spanish composers in nineteenth century such as Isaac Albeniz, Enrique Granados, Manuel de Falla and Joaquín Turina. Granados was a pianist who composed a lot of piano works including piano solo, piano suite and piano trio. His compositions could be classified to three different periods which are Nationalistic, Romantic and Goyescas period. This thesis will be using different perspectives to discuss Granados’s romantic work which is Valse Poétics holistically.

Next, there are six chapters in this thesis. Chapter one investigates the purpose and methodology of research while Chapter two introduces Granados’ life and his musical style. An analysis of musical form, structure and melodic motives of Valse Poétics will be discussed in Chapter three. In addition, Chapter four focuses on application of Granados’s pedalling techniques in Valse Poétics. Lastly, Chapter five determines the musical interpretation of the piece while Chapter six will be conclusion and summarize author’s personal opinions.
