Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) was a famous Argentine composer, soundtrack composer, arranger and bandoneon player in the 20th century. Piazzolla ’s greatest contribution to music was that he revolutionized the traditional tango from the music originally used only as a dance accompaniment to an art form that can be enjoyed independently. His music style, termed “New Tango,” incorporates elements from classical, jazz and tango.

This thesis takes Piazzolla's "Three Preludes Pour Piano" as an example to discuss its musical style and interpretation, divided into five chapters. The first chapter includes an introduction, the research motivation and purpose, and the research scope and method. The second chapter briefly introduces Piazzolla, life and music style. The third chapter discusses the Argentine tango, including its brief history and musical elements. The fourth chapter includes the performance interpretation, the creation background and the music analysis of this work, and my personal perspective on this work. The last chapter is a conclusion to summarize the previous findings.
