Kuang-Chih Cheng’s di concerto “The Drama-like Life and The Life-like Drama” was composed in 2019. The elements of various traditional opera in his work impressed the public. The motivation of the study was to investigate different compositional and integrate multifaceted logic to cohere diverse facets of music employed by the composer.

The research method was to interview the composer that grasped the course of the composition. Then relevant literature was reviewed that included characteristic of traditional opera, back stories of repertoire, and musical inheritance. An analysis of different musical compositional was carried out. Finally, how the performance was interpreted according to different styles of the traditional opera was discussed.

The composer applied three kinds of association, namely looking, listening, and acting, with life and drama through the work. On audio space design, he connected the work step by step from abstraction to fantasy and reality than to reality. The work material applied the elements of traditional opera with Nuo drama, Kunqu opera, and Beijing opera respectively. The compositional style was interweaved from contemporary to ancient time. The composer reflected his personal experience of the life in the work which conveyed “The Drama-like Life and The Life-like Drama” compositional concept.The interpretation is important to grasp musical characteristic and musicianship with different traditional opera in addition to comprehend compositional logic and compositional concept by the composer. It is thereby to show the various traditional opera styles and expresses mind concept specifically.
