The theoretical discourse of this thesis is originated from the exploitative and heuristic process on portrait painting in western history of art. Through the artistic evidences and discussion issues, this author tries to present the social phenomenon of dehumanization and denationalization of human beings in the process of socialization. It implies and argues that under the effect of this denationalization process, people gradually forget what they are and have turned themselves into puppets with hallowed souls. The thematic point of this series of artistic creation is also to explore the deep thoughts and senses of these common facial expression represented in painting forms. It touches the existential reality of human being in the context of contemporary society. Thus they show and present the characteristics of schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, distortions, and loss of our real being in the world. By means of art exploration and with the unconventional touch of vagueness and being distracted, the author tried to build the internal spirit of painting and existence of human beings.Through the artistic creation of Face Series, he also interpreted the existential status of modern society. Taking the example of self-portrait, it could be used to express the change and growth motifs of people in different conjunctures of time, thus it could be used as a way to observe oneself. The so-called self-observation ability is to pass or transcend the tests brought by every stage of life or every part of living when one looks seriously up with oneself. In conclusion, "watching" or "staring” is a very crucial stage of training in painting, and self-portrait is an important way or practice method to reach this purpose. It is just like recoding faithfully one's living with a diary, and represents a sincere and true process of self-introspection and revelation.
