For so many years, Taiwanese have been chasing for economic growth, and ignored the aesthetic sense of city. Besides, history, quality of citizen, sense of beauty, public security, connection between citizen and community, and so on, make what our cities look like. You would not consider cities of Taiwan to be “beautiful”, and they are barely neat. Street views of Taiwan are lacking of aesthetics but full of living crisis.

Based on several field surveys, I’ve recorded the common defections of buildings and trace of commercial activities upon cityscape in Taiwan cities, and classified these regular phenomena into twelve subjects, the messes of grille, cables, stained walls, leaflets and temples, power's transformer boxes, cables underground, metal unlicensed buildings, blocked fire alleys, air-conditioners all over the wall, bright-colored flags and signs, blocked arcade, and cities which were built on potential region of soil liquefaction. These problems scatter among the splendid, modern buildings. Hence, the study has focused on these subjects and made the research of literature and historical background. Next, by analyzing and referring to the city illustrations of Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan, which are formally similar to my own kind, the researcher ensures the direction of illustration creation. After combining my opinion and signifiers such as animals and plants, the researcher has presented twelve works via computerized graphic design.

To these defections of cityscape in cities, my purpose is to wake everyone that many years ago, the mess our cities was actually kind of compromise with reality. I would like not only to make my comments critical but also wish to reveal the problems honestly to the viewers through these metaphors; and, it’s the duty of viewers to follow the guide of denotation and think over the connotation on those social phenomena in Taiwan.
