We can see nothing without light. 70~80% of the information we receive come through our eyes, where “Light” is the key medium for visualization. Tell stories of book designs and images through light construction from the design perspective, while attracting attention and interacting with audiences through the medium of light. Inspired by book designs with creativeness and the extension of vitality through our eyes, we establish the bridge between people and images in book designs attached with lights, an estrangement which is an indispensable connection with design.

In this creation study, forms of light construction applied on the expression of creations are categorized based on the discussion of literature in Chapter 2. By interpreting the nature of photography as well as the lighting of the images, we explain how to explore the essential value of photography and lighting presentation in the early stage of photographing, thereby exposing the development of real appearance of images. In addition, we reveal the most fundamental essence from the term “book design,” and explain its applications and classification later. In Chapter 3, we use the “case study method” by following steps: first, observe, collect and analyze cases related to light construction and imaging of book designs; next, explore the relationship between their themes, creative techniques and concepts; finally, find out a common statement derived from the results obtained. In this creative study, with the concepts and forms of photographic book designs integration, light construction is applied as the formal expression of creations to emphasize its statement in imaging works. Through the observation and findings of creators, the appearance of images is reproduced objectively and accurately with appropriate techniques, while the nature of image transmission is revealed, achieving photographic book designs mainly completed by light construction.

Finally, with the questionnaires collected, it is found that: through the book designs presented with light construction, the stories transmitted through images can be realized; the expression technique of light construction brings more creative techniques to the book design market today. Light construction is the key to transmitting the original concepts of the creation by providing direct visual stimulation, as well as guiding audiences to keep watching and understanding. A creation, combined light construction with photographic book designs, is an excellent medium to boost visual visualization, bringing a new creative technique to today's book design market.
