The Pedagogical Value and Practice Methods of Schubert's Impromptu Op. 90

Absract

Austrian composer Franz Schubert (Franz Peter Schubert, 1797-1828) was one of the most important pionneers of Romanticism. He was also considered as one of the representatives of post-classicalism. From the history of piano music, Schubert’s works combines two conflicting ideologies: the restrictive style of Classicalism and the relatively free style of Romanticism. In his 31-year-long life, Schubert left considerable amount of compositions. Because of the beautiful melodies and the various internal expressions of his music, Schubert’s lieder became popular. As a result, Schubert was awarded a reputation–the King of Lieder.

AmongIn Schubert’s piano works, Impromptus and Moments musicaux are very well more better known. The Impromptus, Op. 90 and Op. 142 were completed in the year before Schubert died. From the effect of Schubert’s piano work, The Schubert’s Impromptu works are full of beautiful melodies and plenty piano playing skillstechnology, therefore his Impromptu works are popular and loved by the students.

In this studythesis, I will explore the pedagogygy of Impromptus, Op. 90, and give suggestions and methods for the practice of specific music section. Finally, I hope to improve increase the number of usage for Impromptus, Op. 90 in general teaching the rate of use in teaching. The scope of the research includes the following three points: (1) Introducetion Schubert’s Impromptus, Op. 90 composition techniquesreative, and music background and music analysis. (2) Explore the Impromptus, Op. 90’s0 in teaching value. (3) For the Impromptus, Op. 90 analysis of the practice of a particular music section. According to the author’s own practice process and teaching experience, respectively, for the Impromptus, Op. 90 the use of harmony, melody, texture and rhythm provide relevant practice advice, students are allowed to practice different sections of the proposal to enhance more piano skills and eventually hope to gain higher interest in learning through the practice of Impromptus, Op. 90.
