Line of Dance is a short film depicting an elderly woman taking care of her aged husband in the hospital and living a repetitive and tedious daily routine, until she falls in love with a relative of a fellow patient.
As the screenwriter and director of this film, I will elaborate on the creative approach and thematic focuses of Line of Dance in this paper. Referenced include Ernest Becker’s "The Denial of Death" and Slavoj Žižek’s "Between Two Deaths", which I use to analyze the physiological and psychological turmoil faced by the elderly.
Also examine the position and aesthetics of Line of Dance as a melodrama film, organize references, share experiences from on-set filming, summarize how the core themes are implemented in this short film, and attach the script for reference.
