French is a language full of rhythm, and French art songs pay attention to the close connection between the rhythm of music and the cadence of poetry. Representative French art song composers from the 19th century to the 20th century include: Hector Berlioz, 1803-1869, Gabriel Fauré, 1845-1924, Claude Debussy, 1862-1918 and Francis Poulenc, 1899-1963.
