The theme of “ Motorbike on Fire! ” is about the determination to pursuit one’s dream. Creator attempts to tell the crisscrossed story in a ridicule and comedic manner to express the themes of adversity as well as dreams.
There are two storylines in this story. One is about a car theft arrested and questioned by a police woman. The other is the story which car theft tells the police woman about a chubby man who failed numerous driver’s license exams. The two storylines intertwines and, while the car theft chatters on what initially seems like a dull story, slowly reveals the relationship between the car theft and the cubby man. Thus, it is shown that the car theft and the chubby man both possess the determination to pursuit their dreams- one wants to be a modern-time Hudini; the other wants to pass the driver’s license exam.
The script is written in the method of “Three Act Play” with the hint of twist. In reference to aesthetics, “Surrealism” style is performed through out the film. During the film production, HD camera is used and further 2D and 3D special effect is later added in the post-production. For sound, original sound is synchronized and part of the sound effect is later recorded in the studio to create two different sound effects, representing two storylines. The songs played in the film are originally composed with instruments such as violin, electric guitar and Chinese traditional instrument- Erhu.
To conclude all, in this short film, there are too many characters and the storylines are somewhat obscure. The attention of the audiences is apt to be distracted so it is difficult for them to identify with the protagonist. However, it is indeed a practical experience for making a feature length movie in the future if Creator can manage storylines and characters more precisely.
