The theme of this thesis is "Travel · Dream - A Study of Chen Yan's painting creation ". Focusing on the works created during the period of studying for master's degree in calligraphy and painting of National Taiwan Art University from 2017 to 2020, this thesis explores and ponders on the theory behind the author's art and creative ideas, and analyzes the author's creative works concretely.

The core thinking of " Travel · Dream - A Study of Chen Yan's painting creation " is that the author hopes to make readers realize the difference between art and reality and better express the author's inner feelings about the world by using illusions, dreams or scenes similar to but different from the real scenes. Therefore, in this paper, Travel and Dream as the core of creative discourse.

The paper is divided into several parts：

The theoretical basis part focuses on the exploration of emotion and feeling, the meaning of "travel" and "dream" in artistic aesthetic activities.

The main content of creative thinking construction is to explore the author's learning of traditional meticulous painting and his thinking of meticulous painting in contemporary environment.

The main content of the creative practice is to explore the modeling concept of concrete image expression, the meaning of the image element "cloud and smoke" commonly used in "travel and dream", and the author's application of Morandi color system.
