The Program Notes of Juan-Ni Wu’s Oboe Recital's Cover

Temporarily unlisted

This study focuses on the oboe and examines the programming and performance concepts of two concert programs, analyzing how works from different historical periods and styles showcase the oboe’s expressive capabilities. The first concert features works from the Baroque to the twentieth century, including Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s Oboe Concerto in B-flat Major, Kalliwoda’s Morceau de salon for Oboe and Piano, Poulenc Sonata for Oboe and Piano, and Hummel’s Introduction, Theme and Variations for Oboe and Piano, highlighting melodic fluidity, lyrical expression, and technical versatility through solo and chamber music formats.

The second concert spans the Baroque to the mid-twentieth century, presenting Bach’s Oboe Concerto in D minor, Schumann’s Adagio and Allegro in A-flat Major, Albinoni’s Concerto for 2 Oboes and Piano in D Major, Saint-Saëns’ Oboe Sonata in D Major, and Vaughan Williams’ Oboe Concerto in A minor. These selections demonstrate the oboe’s timbral range, soloistic charm, and potential for chamber music interaction. Both programs balance historical depth, stylistic diversity, and emotional layers, guiding the audience to appreciate the oboe’s tonal beauty and artistic value across different eras.
