Everyone has his inner and dark characters, including fear, greed, anger, revenge, evil and so on. Most people are afraid to face these dark sides. However, if these characters emerge, they may bring unpredictable crisis. Through the interactive device of “Dark room-Meeting my shadow”, the audience can regain the balance between good and evil characters and have a happy life.

The concept of “Dark room-Meeting my shadow” combines human nature and technology using digital interactive device for the audience to face another untouchable self and the dark characters. The work contains two parts, “Separate and Remain” and “Meeting”. From the part of “Separate and Remain”, the audience can know the existence of another self and think which one is the real self? Facing two selves at the same time, the audience can understand the coexistence of id and dark characters. After the stage of “Separate and Remain”, the audience can “meet” his or her real characters. The author collects fifty kinds of dark characters from Buddhist “Shurangama Sutra”, including fifty devils from five aggregates. Each aggregate has ten realms, and each realm is human’s mental phenomenon. The author also gives solutions to these fifty dark characters to control and improve the dark characters and the following crisis.

For the presentation of the work, “Separate and Remain” is the visual accumulation and change using delay processing technique of instantaneous images to present two selves on the screen. On the other hand, “Meeting” is the combination of virtual image and real object. The former contains the information of fifty bright and dark sides, and the later is a flashlight. The audience can use the flashlight to interact with the virtual image.
