Digit-by-digit Method is a five-act mid-length film explores rationalism, romanticism, democracy and techniques of the self, with a set time frame in one afternoon, three dialogues and five-act chapters. Throughout multiple layers of style and setting, including mise en abyme and a metastructure, Digit-by-digit Method attempts to extend certain discourse under the academy system, and to reflect the practice of impression managements how artists roam between different regime systems.

The dialogues of Digit-by-digit Method is consisted of several unmade project made over the years of art school life, to develop this meta-narrative. The core of the film is based on the emotional dynamics against vulgarity which drove the character of the play, both inside and outside the mise en abyme, through the post-concern of realism, documentaries, political movements, reflexivity, and postmodernity.

The thesis first aims at the relationship between filmography and author's academic thinking of social sciences; then, the thesis intends to inquire the possibility of the inseparable combination of films, cinephilia and the artists. The thesis of Digit-by-digit Method focuses on Walter Benjamin's discourse of the transforming process from "erlebnis" to "erfahrung", followed by a reflexivity of Jacques Rancière's concept of "aesthetic system", and the critique of Michel Focault's " Techniques of the Self ". Finally, the thesis presents the dialectical execution of the five acts film, which constructs a space for cinephilia.
