In this present essay, the relation between the musical center and its developments will be discussed. The aim is to explore how Prokofiev uses rhythmic changes to make up many kinds of texture, to create balance and competition between the flute and the piano. By identifying the different musical materials, the performer can reflect better the composer’s thoughts, show their direct influences in the interpretation, and eventually produce a convincing performance of this work.
