The author has been genuinely interested in science fiction movies and strange urban myths since childhood. The author’s creative work is under the influence of the mystery and fear of unknown events as well as esoteric narratives. An unintentional reading of the brief history of Voyager 1, the interstellar spacecraft carrying human’s romance and curiosity into space, inspired the author after 2017. In the painting-based work, the author attempts to create an unknown visual experience that can trigger mystery and imagination. At the same time, the author expects to provoke viewers’ imagination through the depiction of the unknown and apocalypse. The fear of the unknown is the innate instinct of human beings. The mysterious and startling feeling of déjà vu comes up between the unknown and the known, and it further inspires human curiosity and makes people explore the unique imagination. Accordingly, the author goes on to discuss how the ruins result in mystery and imagination in the aesthetics of ruins. In the process of exploration, people record and pass on knowledge. Regardless of erecting monuments to pursue eternity, the evidence of human life cannot escape from the destruction and then becomes ruins while losing the carried messages in the timestream. The artificial wreckage was once given the function of carrying messages. Without such function, can these scattered pieces still be regarded as monuments? Alternatively, do the remains become the ruins and eventually return to the dust? Also, can the artificial creation at present be considered as a monument that once existed for human beings after its disintegration in the future? The author will respond to the above questions with his creative work, and manifest the content via the composition of the picture elements, scenes, and narrative techniques. Finally, from the apocalyptic scene and the prophetic traits contained in the picture, the themes of Anthropocene and Eschatology are brought forward. The author reflects on the relationship between everything in the universe and human beings and ponders how human begins struggle for deep space exploration.
