This thesis takes my painting works between 2019 and 2022 during the period of master's degree study as the research object. My inspiration comes from distinct perspectives and unexpected feelings in daily observations. It is drawn from unfamiliar scenes in real life and misplaced combinations of objects, and objects which lose functionality or have sense of weirdness. Those objects are captured in the picture, forming an allopatric scene. For my works, they mainly focus on two directions. One is natural objects and artificial objects, and the other is everyday objects that are located in the grey area and cannot be defined clearly. As a research topic, “Place of Heterotopia” involves two levels. The first level is the conceptual heterotopia, which is also the core of this research. The second level is the heterotopia created by my paintings, which is also the relationships among those objects that appear in my pictures repetitively. Besides, the core of this research is to reorganize and redefine those artificial landscapes that are hard to be clearly defined, and eventually Heterotopia is the final appearance that my creations want to demonstrate.
Starting with "Still Painting", I first discuss in this research article about my thoughts on the creation of paintings, and then establish the staged creative direction during my graduate school studies and the content structure of this thesis. In the first chapter, "Daily Containers", based on my learning process and conceptual development, I have tried to recall the source of my creation, and clarify the thinking changes that have flowed in different time axes during the past three years of my master's degree. The second chapter, "Redefined Scenery", studies the "scenery" that has existed in my paintings for a long time, as well as the recurring content and depicting objects. Chapter 3, "Forming Heterotopia", discusses the content and viewing angle of my works, and sorts out the relationship between artworks and spaces from the perspective of solo exhibition practice. Finally, I expect to be able to establish a clear creative context by completing the writing of this research while making creations.
