The main purpose of this thesis is to discuss six love songs of Edward AlexanderMacDowell: "Sweet Blue-eyed Maid", "Sweet Heart Tell Me", "Thy Beaming Eyes","For Sweet Love's Sake", "O Lovely Rose", and "I Ask but This."

This research consists of the introduction of composer, MacDowell's life story and his style of creation, poets of

six songs and briefs of their poems, analysis of the

songs' forms and the descriptions of the artistic

conception, and the last part, the interpretation of music playing—through the process of my practices to make the

appropriate interpretation of the styles of his songs.
