This paper introduces the development works about the anime clip 'The Distant of Travel'. In addition, by discussing the design of anime characters and scene styles several major topics about the culture of anime are analyzed. This includes the definition of anime, the artistic realm of anime, and the life of young people that immensely enjoy the A.C.G( anime-comic-game) culture. This anime clip also presents the maturity of anime makers in Taiwan with the improved software tools and widespread anime information.
This report starts with the production process of the film "The Distance of Travel", which is based on hand drawing skill. Then it introduces how to make hand drawing animation with personal computer and animation software, from drawing to computer process. For the best result, and not limited on 2D animation, this production used 3D software to make one of the main prop - the train. Finally, with the non-linear editing post-production, the hand drew and 3D part were seamless composted together.
Later on, this report mentions a brief history of Japanese animation, and compares the characters in this film and in Japanese or western animated films. This report tries to figure out what kind of design made these characters are attractive.
Finally, the report also analyses the "OTAKU culture" and how it influenced contemporary animators as well as the director of the film "The Distance of Travel."
