In primitive societies, mythology is the medium that people use to explain the many naturally occurring phenomena they experience. In addition, it is the reflection of art in their lives, struggles, desires and needs. It has the potential to express a nation’s aspirations and ideals, as well as pressure and dread. Therefore, as mentioned by Carl Gustav Jung, the collective unconscious has the function of compensation and enlightenment in insular consciousness. The dream is like a personal mythology, which can be interpreted as a dream of one nation. Furthermore, a dream can be the main road to subconsciousness. Every historical civilization reflected their unique civilized society in a particular way. It could indirectly encourage the development of civilization and the inspiration of art creativity through its common psychological quality.

The characteristics of mythology are reality and holiness. According to the Mythopoeic Thought, it personifies inanimate objects. That is to say, it allows spiritless things to have human characteristics, and be deemed as a person or god who has subjective consciousness. Between Eastern and Western mythology, Greek myths were the most humanistic. Greek gods have desires and loves, and often have flaws and make mistakes. This is one of the reasons why the author tends to choose Chinese gods as the theme.

In accordance with “Classic of Mountains and Seas” by Fang Tao and “Yao Guai Taiwan: San Bai Nian Dao Yu Qi Huan Zhi” by Jingyao He, the author not only used traditional painting materials such as paper and ink, but also different materials like acrylic and Nihouga painting pigments. As a result, he could find and build his own painting style. Chapter 2 it discussed “Classic of Mountains and Seas” and art forms from Egypt and Greece. Moreover, it studied the basic element of divinity. In chapter 3, some artists who created mythological related artworks, such as Kawanabe Kyosai, Hisashi Tenmyouya and Chen Ying Ru, were the author’s inspiration of his artworks. Chapter 4 described the idea and thought between the series and individual paintings in order to construct the author’s creative-systematic structure in art at the present stage.
