Schubert selected various poetry of Johann Wolfgang von Gothe to compose the Lieders. Amongs the numerous of the Lieders those are based on poetry of Gothe, the character “Mignon” is well noted for most of the female vocal recitals. Schubert composed many Lieders those focused on the theme of Mignon. In which, the author chose “Kennst du das Land” (D 321)、“Nur wer die Sehnsucht kennt” (D 877, no.4)、“Heiß mich nicht reden, heiß mich schweigen” (D 877, no.2), and “So laßt mich scheinen, bis ich werde” (D 877, no.3). Result from above of the four Lieders, either those Lieder of the numbers are connected or they are indeed touched and pleasant to hear, numerous of the vocal recitals put four of them together in a composing to be an arrangement of the multitude of the Lieder.

There are various studies of Schubert in abroad. And the song cycle and related study document of Schubert is even manifold. Just a few of vocal performance selected the four of the narrative poetry, “Mignon”. Most of the studies strive for individual compose studying or comparing. Therefore, the author would like to make a thorough study of this section, in order to make perfect expression of of Schubert’s Lieder.
