Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) is one of the important musicians in the Classical period. This thesis examines four of the seven concert arias he composed for Aloysia Weber (1760-1839): “Alcandro, lo confesso… Non so d′onde” (K. 294), “Nehmt meinen Dank” (K. 383), “Vorrei spiegarvi, oh Dio!” (K. 418) and “No, no, no, che non sei capace” (K. 419).
The thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter states the motive, purpose, scope and research method of this study and reviews available literature. The second chapter investigates the life, love life and concert arias of Mozart. The third chapter investigates the life of Aloysia Weber, her relationship with Mozart and her vocal characteristics. The fourth chapter, which is the core part of this thesis, provides the background, translated lyrics, analysis and interpretation of the aforementioned concert arias, divided into four sections. The fifth chapter concludes the whole study.
