Opera originated in Europe at the end of the sixteenth century. First in Italy, then in France, Austria, Germany and other countries; from Western Europe, Eastern Europe to Russia. The golden age of Opera was in the nineteenth century. Many composers re-created an unique "Opera Fantasia" by using the materials which are from the opera. By different works, people can re-understand the importance of opera and deepens their impression. Such as "Fantasia on Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusitcana, for clarinet & piano, Op. 83", "Tosca Clarinet Fantasia" by famous Italian composer, Carlo Della Giacoma (1858-1929); the famous Hungary Clarinetist Béla Kovács’s (1937-) "La forza del destino Clarinet Fantasia" and "Il barbiere di Siviglia Fantasia da Concerto", were all "Opera Fantasia", which re-created from opera materials.
The thesis mainly discusses composer, Luigi Bassi (1833-1871), re-created "Rigoletto Fantasia da Concerto" by using materials in Verdi's opera "Rigoletto". The using of materials, with cadenza and variations, allow the writer can further understand the structure of the music, plots and lyrics of the original opera, and explore how Bassi reorganized these thematic materials into a clarinet "Opera Fantasia".
