The abbreviated character notation of guqin (jian zi pu) is a fingering tablature which records the techniques and note position on guqin. The fingering tablature plays very important part in guqin performing arts. Due to the different aesthetics and philosophy thinking in different eras, climates, exotic culture and etc. ,the different style of guqin music was formed.

The evolution of traditional guqin fingering among pre-Tang, after Tang, and late Qing dynasty, is discussed in the begining of this dissertation. The new-created fingering of guqin music in repertoire in modern times is followed by to be researched. Via the development of traditional and new-created fingering, the innovation of aesthetic thinking of guqin culture in modern time is mentioned in chapter three. What is the influence of new-created fingering used in guqin music is the core of this dissertation, and it is the final part in this study.
