The expression of contemporary Taiwanese Yangqin works is very diverse in the 21st century. There also has an excellent development in the contemporary extended techniques and multiple timbre display of Yangqin, especially in the Yangqin solo work “101.508”, which was composed by Chao-Ming Tung in 2006, combined the modern and traditional Yangqin techniques, and showed the diverse and innovative aesthetics of East and West.

Therefore, this thesis uses this piece as a research theme to explore the comprehensive design and timbre perform of the preset Yangqin in the formal performance techniques and informal techniques that combine with the concept of Rumorismo.

This thesis conducts research on the literature related to the development of contemporary musical styles, and through the interview with the composer Chao-Ming Tung about his creative process and the background of the creation of this piece, in order to understand the composer transforms the architectural concept and construction process of an important Taiwan landmark, the Taipei 101 skyscraper, into a musical art work.

The author analyzes and interprets this work, and hopes this research can have a deeper understanding of the musical conception of the “101.508” for the subsequent Yangqin performers, and as a reference for the playing techniques and timbre display of contemporary Yangqin.
