This is an analysis of the Master Degree’s musical concert pieces, which consist of fifteen pieces from the classical era, romantic era, 20th century modernism music, and opera

arias in German, Italian, English, French, Mandarin, and Taiwanese.

This analysis consists of four sections. The first section explains the thought process for the selection and order of the concert pieces. The second section explores the importance of the sixteen musical pieces, in the order of the concert program. Each piece’s analysis is divided into three parts: first, each composer’s upbringing, educational background, musical career, and musical style; second, analysis of the lyric and my interpretation of the music when performing each piece; third, Chinese translation of the lyric. The third section is the reference of the sources cited in the writing of this analysis. The fourth section is an appendix of the musical concert program. The process of writing this analysis allowed me to gain a thorough understanding of the what the composer was expressing and imparting upon the audience through previously published criticisms and musical reviews. This has allowed me to perform each piece with more emotions during the concert and hopefully touch the audience as the composers intended when writing their music.
