The title of this short film "Ganju" is taken from a story about Zhang Yue of the Tang Dynasty which was said that he had a purple-colored bead that will be able to make people keep everything in mind when holding this bead in hand.
Many plots of the film is edited by my childhood. According to this background, “Ganju” is not just a short film work, but also my meditation about my family and a record of growth. By this film I didn’t not only try to re-explore my personal memories, but also started a dialogue about aesthetics.
In the 21st century, under the trend of digitization, there are more different styles about the language of filmmaking. The former top ten in box office history " Transformers ", "Avatar" also shows that art of film in 2014, has been however, not only capturing the scenes and performance in front of the camera but a combination of animation and special effects program. However, details of our life would not be replaced by the green boards. This film attempts to tell audiences about natural flavors of ordinary life.
I, the director of this film, grew up in the outskirts of Changhua in 1980s which grown rapidly in economic, therefore this film "Ganju" was trying to represent the picture of growing rural town and reproduce 1990s "family That factory "atmosphere of life. I take long shot as the primary form of cinematography and hope to focus the description of character with that. The long shot that makes characters of different times appear on the same scene attempts to express the continuation of the family, and the relationship between people and land. I wish to make the audience became another family member in this film, experiencing a period of their own past once more.
I didn’t focus on editing conflicts of the script when writing “Ganju”. The reality of life was the purpose of it. Family members grow up, lost, but supported each others eventually.
