The supporting paper cited as an instance from “Yung-Hui Yang composition recital” consists of four original works, giving discussions of the compositions and applications of music and technology, the technology of electronic music, and the study of function of technology in the works.
This thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter I “Introduction” explains the course of author studying electronic music composition. Chapter II “The compositions and applications of music and technology” including the transition between analogy and digital era, using computer technology to support my composition, and the impact of technology on music composition. Chapter III “Inverstigating of electronic music technology” details discussion of computer technology, for example tape technology, synthetic technology, granular synthesis, delay, ring modulation…etc. Chapter IV “The roll and function of technology employed in the works” takes “Extension” “Touch of Recall” “Restless” “The Sound of Falling Rain” as examples, to analyze the function of computer technology in designing sonic gesture, texture, timbre and mode of performance. Chapter V “Conclusions and Reflections” is the conclusion of the thesis and author’s reflection on compositions.
