This essay first of all introduces the compositional background of Henze and the influences of Stravinsky on Henze. The paper then traces the theories of the Second Viennese School, the musical characteristics of Stravinsky, and the Neo-classicism promoted by Stravinsky. Through these research the author aims to obtain a more precise analysis and an interpretation closer to the composer’s heart.
