In the course of history, the significance and the range of documentary photography has been constantly challenged. Documentary photography does not completely refer to the sketch of reality. It seems transparent, abundant and artistic, being a particular photographic form which leads us closer to “what is reality”. Today, the multi-media generation makes documentary photography live in a contradictory dilemma: it not only getting rid of stereotype but also paying more attention on photographers’ ideas and tactics. The most important is, documentary photography still values the experience and the truth within before the forms and skills. The study mainly focuses on the concepts, process, forms and the ideology of documentary photography, further analyzing the images of Taiwan indigenous people. The research results and creative works to record Mlepa tribe is not only to reveal the truth of society but also to reflect the experience of creator. The visual symbols signify the culture of Atayal people, also calling viewers to follow with the truth behind.
