Fantasy art is derived from a genre of Western fantasy literature called "High Fantasy". Many traits of the fantasy world has its roots cemented in multiple facets of Medieval culture. The origin of this fictitious universe can also be traced back to ancient Western mythology and folktale.

Fairy-tale is a form of fiction literature, which is usually comprised mostly of magic and supernatural phenomena, and features characters such as talking animals, elves, fairies, giants and witches...etc. Creators of fairy-tale use their immense imagination to create unexpected results that could never have been conjured up by a limited or biased mind but at the same time appreciate and welcome by children.

Western fantasy children illustration designs gather different techniques to depict , annotate and nourish various story lines. These story lines which reveal different sceneries with different characters bring out epic cinematic compositions and colourful visual displays. The value of art stands out when beauty and characteristic of these fantasy worlds have been created.

This project will be divided into two parts: research paper and art work. Through the research of examples on children illustration, discussion, mixed media techniques and the use of colour theory, we can define the principles and concepts of children illustration and will further discuss the development of this art.

My art work will focus on the subject of Western fantasy children literature, through the research paper, drawing techniques and discussion on visual communications, I will further create a series of art works on fantasy children illustration by using computer graphics which allows children to easily enter and enjoy this magical fantasy world.
