Taiwan is famed for its street food culture, thousands of visitors from around the world flock to Taiwan each year to get the taste of the traditional Taiwanese cuisines. The snack foods of Taiwan are the result of the fusion between traditional Chinese culinary art and Taiwan’s unique cultural background, each expressing its own dynamism and charm. Many of the Taiwanese street food snacks and its vendors have become synonymous with its regional culture and celebrated as a tourist attraction. These snack foods are an integral part of the unique Taiwanese experience and appeal, contributing to the island’s economy and its related goods and services.

The Dynamism of Taiwan’s regional cultures have created many local favorites across the island. Of all the culinary hotspots, the ancient city of Tainan would be the place to be for street food snacks. Not only rich in its glorious history, Tainan is also famed for its snacks. Even up until today, with a modernized cityscape, the snack food experience in Tainan is still as authentic as the way it was. This creative project is developed from the theme of Tainan’s famed snack food, it addresses the unique aspects of Tainan’s street food culture, examines the illustration style for the project, and develops into a series of original illustrations, each portraying a unique dish, as a promotion of Tainan’s famed snacks.

The project chooses the quintessential snack foods from Tainan that has stood the test of time as the source of inspiration, and develops storytelling illustrations to represent Tainan’s snack food culture. By combining with posters and other visual media, these illustrations will hopefully become useful in the promotion of local food culture, and play role in the stimulation of tourism in Tainan.
