Tyzen Hsiao is one of the most important modern composers in Taiwan. He has written vocal music pieces with much localism. And the chorus of forming pieces is the most precious portion of his works. There are four sacred chorus works which are created in great respect, including “He leadeth me, O blessed thought”, “O bless the Lord, my soul”, “The Lord’s prayer” and “Praise the Lord”.
There are eight chapters in this thesis. The first chapter is a preface. The composer’s chorus works and biography are introduced with some analysis in the second chapter. Next, the composer’s four sacred chorus works were analyzed piece by piece in the third, the fourth, the fifth, and the sixth chapter. There are some suggestions about applications in sacred chorus works which are made for church ceremonies in the seventh chapter,. The eighth chapter is the conclusion of this thesis .
