Aaron Copland (1900-1990) is a well-known contemporary American composer, conductor, educator and music critic. He has devoted his life to promoting American-style creative works, putting American music on the world stage and occupying a place. Therefore, he is honored as "the leader of American composers." The work discussed in this thesis is "Duo for Flute and Piano" (1971). Although it is a late Copland work, it integrates creative techniques from various periods to commemorate the late great flutist William Kincaid (1895-1967).

This thesis is divided into five chapters for discussion: The first chapter is an introduction, briefly describing the research motivation and purpose, and explaining the research scope and methods; the second chapter is the life and creation works, exploring Copland's life and creation The style and work, and the background of the creation of "Duo for Flute and Piano"; Chapter 3 is the analysis of the composition of this piece, by rationally analyzing the creative techniques of each movement; Chapter 4 is the interpretation of performance, through The analysis of the previous chapter, and then provide suggestions on the performance.
