This article explores the relationships between the final performance product, my own experiences, the team, and others involved in the creative process in the graduation production of "The Only Remaining Light of the City". The aim of this project is to explore the sparks generated by the collision of the three works included in this production and the content that resulted from the development of the three pieces. In analyzing the three works-- "Circulation", "Six Degrees of Separation", and "Mist City"-- within the production of "The Only Remaining Light of the City", I would like to focus on my personal insights and experiences as means to understand the creative process throughout this project.
The first chapter introduces my living environment and life experiences, expressing the aesthetics of performing arts, while illuminating how I find inspiration for artistic expression in my life and how I explore the connections between myself and the visible and invisible aspects of the performing arts. The second chapter, "Circulation", centers on the creative dialogue between the “Oriental body” and music. I deeply analyze the dance work "Circulation", to discuss how do I use Oriental aesthetics as the foundation of my work. Additionally, I explore how I used performing arts as the method of creation, using the notion of “the doomsday rebirth” as the theme. I also examine how I utilize music and dance within the main performance. Chapter 3, "Six Degrees of Separation", focuses on the interlacing sense of reality and time, guiding the performers’ physical and emotional expressions from the dance to discover the difficulties and contradictions of conflict and harmony between the two creations. In addition, I also explore the impact of science and technology on people who live in groups and how it changes their psychological state. Chapter 4 is about how social scenery is processed and reproduced to create the dance. "The Mist City" describes the living environment from my own eyes and imagines the city from the perspective of God. The dance was developed to observe the city, which is composed of buildings, people, vehicles Imagery. It is my intention to explain the findings of these observations and the relationship within the work "Misty City". Chapter 5, the final chapter, seeks to reflect and find applications for the ideas developed in my project by integrating the dance works of the entire performance and by evaluating the benefits to society and the performing arts circle. I would like to consider how to improve the reception of my work based on the audience’s feedback and hope that my choreography will continue to improve in the future.
During the fourteen years from my initial exposure to the performing arts to the independent production of my first performance, "The Only Remaining Light of the City", I have developed substantially in terms of my performance methodology, theme content, and my way of presenting my work to the audience. These changes have been significant, especially since we are living in the age where the Internet and media technology are so advanced, and the amount of information is exploding. So many things have broken the rules of the past. I hope that through creation and writing, the concept and persistence of dance can be retained, and more people will be moved and passionate about dance art. Modern dance is no longer just a multiple-choice question to understand or not understand, but a thesis question without a standard answer.
