The purpose of this research is to make a comprehensive analysis of Brahms’ Violin Sonata No.1 in G Major, Op. 78. By investigating Brahms’s background and compositional methods, the author is able to gain further insights of techniques and interpretation of the performing art. Moreover, according to the research findings, this thesis can provide assistance to people interested in Brahms’ works.
This thesis includes five chapters: In the first chapter, the author describes the introduction, motives, purposes, methods and steps of the study; the second chapter introduces Brahms’ background and the motive of his composition; the third chapter discusses the compositional characteristics of the sonata from five different aspects: form, thematic development, melody, rhythm, harmony and texture. In the fourth chapter, the author analyzes the techniques and collaboration of Brahms’ music language. The last part, The article ends with a summary of the research.
