The Creation Description of “Monster”

國立臺灣藝術大學 / 多媒體動畫藝術學系新媒體藝術碩士班 / Author:CHUANG, KUN-CHIEH

This work is a 2D animation film that depicts dreams. It describes the inner feelings of modern people through a girl’s dreams. The girl living a busy life hides all her pressures in her mind. In the dreams, these pressures transform into a monster that is always chasing the protagonist. Finally, the protagonist realizes that the greatest fear arises from herself.

Dreams reflect people’s unconscious mental activities and represent human minds. The expressions of dreams are considerably similar to film editing. Moreover, dreams endow each sign with a meaning through symbolism. The author intends to adapt her dream experiences into a lively animation work that can induce empathy.

During the creation process, the author studied the relationship between dreams and the psychology, reviewed creative works related to dreams, and explored animation expressions. Finally, the author combined the analytical results with her animation styles and thoughts as the methods for creating this animation.

The work is a 4-minute 2D computer animation and exhibited as "Monster Animation Creation Exhibition" at Mucho Happiness Café in October 2016.
