The topic of the thesis is based on the “The Gap” and its discourses. The theme is heavily based around autistic children and is supplemented by various other similar works for deeper analysis. Within these conditions, the author projects their own surrealistic view upon the inner world of an autistic child while using characteristics of autism to lay a foundation for the scenes, this helps to create a unique world.
This piece utilizes third person narratives to investigate the relationship between a father and his son. By using elements within the scene to further the plot and interaction between the characters, the author highlights very real problems that such families can encounter. Throughout the short, cinematic techniques are used to paint the grim picture in a lighter, more interesting tone. This makes the narrative easier to swallow for the audience, and they are hopefully, more inclined to look back and reflect on the more arduous issues that are touched upon.
