This article is discussing two completed works by French composer Achille-Claude Debussy (1862-1918) in 1910. The " Première Rhapsodie " and "Petite Pièce " for the clarinet and piano were completed in 1910.

The " Première Rhapsodie " and "Petite Pièce " for the clarinet and piano discussed in this article that completed by French composer Achille-Claude Debussy in 1910. At that time, Debussy was invited by Gabriel Fauré to compose designated pieces for the clarinet examination, so he wrote ‘‘Première Rhapsodie’’ and dedicated it to the clarinet professor Prospère Mimart （1859-1928）. He also composed " Petite Pièce " for sight-reading exam in Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris（also known as CNSMDP）. Debussy gave full play to the characteristics of the clarinet, demonstrating the lightness of the clarinet, the superiority of the clarinet, the exquisite melody and the difficult-to-control skills. These two pieces still very challenging till today.

This thesis will divide into four chapters. The first chapter explains the research motivation and research methods. The second chapter is the historical background part, discussing the life of Debussy and the characteristics of his music. The third chapter is the discussion of the development and technique of the clarinet, understanding the school of clarinet and the discussion of clarinet playing techniques. The last chapter is the analysis and interpretation of the music.
