To create《Evolvement of Modern and Nostalgic》series of paintings, the author got the spark of imagination from her collection of folk art products and daily craft items of the west and the East while studying the coloring and the pattern of those artistic works. The author was inspired by different emotions and senses she has found in those artistic works which led her to study the history,cultural background and the decorative art spirt of those pieces of livingware of everyday folks.
The author makes the decoration art as the keynote of her works and creates them in oil painting. Therefore,in this paper, the author first studies the history of decorative art and explores the topics such as〝Decorative work and Art〞and 〝From Traditional Artistic Works to Modern Design〞, seeking the originality of author´s artistic style among traditional and modern arts. By mixing the traditional art and modern design, the author created the new sense of decorative art . The art of this type can create artistic atmosphere in living space and also make the essence of Chinese culture a part of our daily lives. Art is the essential part of our spiritual lives as they can give us comfort and make it possible for us to live rich cultural lives.
