Hip hop culture originated from street activities in the United States in the 1970s. Rap music and graffiti art in cultural expressions have a lively, rebellious, and unique spirit. With the promotion of media and commercial markets, rap music has emerged in Taiwan market and has become a popular trend. It’s lyrics and images reflect the unique appearance and culture of Taiwan's society. Graffiti art, also originating from street culture, shares a strong connection with hip-hop culture in terms of content value. It possesses a characteristic of being unrestricted by any specific medium, using graffiti as a form of expression to showcase a rebellious spirit and individual style. Not only does it serve as a visual element of hip-hop culture, but it also extends its influence into the realms of art and commerce, combining development in these fields.

This creative research explores the cultural fusion in Taiwanese hip-hop, focusing on its symbolic elements through graffiti-style visual art. By reviewing literature on hip-hop culture's development in music and graffiti, and employing case analysis, the study collects album covers globally. It observes dynamic, texture-rich line techniques, highlights color contrasts, spatial layers, and uses visual symbols to convey themes and imagery, emphasizing the absence of standardized graffiti norms.

This creative research collects hip-hop songs and MVs with local cultural themes as design samples. Taking six songs as examples, such as " Lu Rou Fan" (2020), "Boba Tea" (2019), "Incense" (2019), "Input Sattva" (2020), "tjakudain" (2019), and "Sweet" (2020), the research observes Taiwan's cultural characteristics and symbol representation. Based on textual analysis, the music samples are grouped into three themes: "Culinary Culture," " Religious Culture," and "Human Community" for design inspiration. Using semiotic translation, cultural symbols are transformed into graphic elements, enriching graffiti design. This creative research extends its visual interpretation to merchandise, showcasing the local cultural expressions of Taiwanese hip-hop music and its fusion with diverse cultures.
