Chen-Wei Chien Vocal Recital

臺北市立大學 / 音樂學系碩士在職專班 / Author:Chien, Chen-Wei

This thesis focuses on the analysis and interpretation of repertoires in Chen-Wei Chien Vocal Recital, in which these 16 songs were selected under two basic premises.

One is the pivoting theme of love and death in Gerald Finzi's song cycle Let Us Garlands Bring, and the other is the inspiring experiences that this thesis author had gained from his choral life. It is under the baton of those contemporary maestros that the author had collaborated with, that three oratorio arias were selected, as a tribute to these masters, and to a lifetime of choral singing of the author.

This thesis will be divided into four parts: program design, introduction to repertoire, reference, and program book of the recital. In program design, the author will layout the concept, explaining the design and selection of repertoires in this recital program. In introduction to repertoire, a discussion will be held in seven parts according to their sequences in the program, with a critical analysis on each song's composer, lyricist, compositional background, and analysis on musical form and lyrics. A interpretive note for each repertoire will also be presented from the author's perspective. In reference, a list of analytical literature, e-resource and versions of scores will be provided. In the end, the program book of the recital will be included as an appendix.
