This study is qualitative research which adopts the history research method and the range of research includes the differences between metonymy, metaphor and symbolon, the symbolism, the definition of illustration, the expression technique of The Little Prince written by Saint Exupery. Through the literature review, analysis and integration, the metaphor and symbolon method and spirit are applied to the creation of illustration.
The presentation mode of the works is image-text and is divided into two series which are object series and animal series, which are different in the form and subject. The object series has 11 pieces, using metaphor technique to compare the wool, stair, record, pencil, Russian doll to the thought, dream, memory, politeness, personality which are the abstract derivatives related to human. The animal series has 9 pieces, using symbolon method, the owl, swallow, cat, sheep, giraffe, rhinoceros, polar bear, hermit crab, badger symbolize the writers’ 9 friends. The object series shows the pure beauty using simple line while the animal series presents innocent fun using flat printed method.
This study is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is introduction which includes the motivation and purpose, range and method, difficulties and restriction and term definition of this research. The second chapter is literature review which discusses metaphor and symbolon, symbolism and illustration. The third chapter is creation forms and principles and the content is image-text, simplified and planarity. The fourth chapter is work interpretation which respectively states the form and content of the object series and animal series. The last chapter is conclusion.
